Support for Applicants and Students with Special Needs

Alfons Centre supports all Applicants and Students at Brno University of Technology (BUT) who have any Special Needs resulting from their health conditions.

Service is available for applicants and students with:

1.  specific learning difficulties
2.  ADHD
3.  mental health issues
4.  autistic spectrum disorders
5.  hearing impairment
6.  visual impairment
7.  physical impairment
8.  chronic somatic diseases

Admissions Exam Accommodations

• When submitting your online application to Brno University of Technology, select the Special Needs Accommodations option and specify the type of your special need and the type of acceptable evidence.

• Once your application has been processed, you will receive an email requesting that you submit documentation confirming your special needs. A list of acceptable evidence is available here.

• After we receive your documentation, we will inform you about the proposed accommodations for your admissions exam.

For some faculties, you will be asked to submit your documentation directly to SCIO, the organization responsible for administering the admissions exam and related accommodations. A list of these faculties and the exam dates is available here.

Information about the date, format, and conditions for exemption from the admissions exam is provided by the Student Affairs Office of the faculty to which you are applying.

Study Accommodations

Study accommodations are individualized adjustments to study conditions designed to ensure equal opportunities for students with special needs. However, these adjustments must not reduce the academic requirements or learning outcomes of the study programme. The specific study accommodations are always specified in the Study Accommodations Plan.

The Study Accommodations Plan may be updated during the course of study to reflect the student’s current needs or any changes to them.

How to Apply for Study Accommodations

• Contact the Alfons Centre and specify the type of your special need.

• You will be asked to provide the required acceptable evidence and arrange a meeting with a coordinator.

• Based on your individual needs, appropriate study accommodations will be assigned. The agreed accommodations will be summarized in the Study Accommodations Plan. The document is available for the student to view in the StudIS Information System – Personal Information section.

Students with long-term needs are encouraged to contact the Alfons Centre before the beginning of the semester, however
in case of unexpected or emergency situations (hospitalization, mental health emergency), we provide support throughout the semester.

Instructions for Students using Study Accommodations Plan

• At the beginning of each semester, contact the instructors with whom you need to arrange accommodations for classes (lectures and seminars). For example, you may request study materials in advance.

• At least one week before an examination, test, or course assessment, contact the examiner by email and inform them about your assigned examination accommodations.

• If you require accommodations for your State Final Examination, please inform the Alfons Centre at least one month before the examination date. We will help you arrange all necessary accommodations.

• study skills training
• speech to text transcription
• interpreting into Czech Sign language
• help with physical obstacles on university premises
• the digitalization of study literature
